Newcastle Jets can announce the signing of Australia U/23 international, Connor O’Toole, on an 18-month deal, subject to a medical.

A left-back, O’Toole was selected in the Australia U/23s squad which recently finished third at AFC U/23 Championship in Thailand.

The fullback most recently played his club football for Brisbane Roar, for whom he made 31 appearances since making his debut in the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season.

Upon signing with Newcastle, O’Toole said he’s excited by the opportunity to fight for a starting spot.

“I’m really pleased to have signed with Newcastle for the rest of this season and for next,” O’Toole said.

“Being away with the Olyroos and now having the Olympics coming up at the end of the season, I really want to put my best foot forward for a spot in that squad.

“I think that being in Newcastle, in a new environment will help me push myself and bring out my best football.”

Football Operations Manager, Joel Griffiths said O’Toole was a quality player and was pleased to have secured the youngster’s signature.

“Connor is a young defender, with plenty of talent and even more potential,” Griffiths said.

“He’s highly rated by the Australian youth coaching set-up, and we’ve seen his ability on show in the Hyundai A-League for a few seasons now.

“The Club sees Connor as a long-term player in Newcastle and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can produce on the pitch.”

O’Toole is set to begin training with the Club later this week, and will be available for this weekend’s clash with Western United.
