Newcastle Jets can confirm the signing of Welsh international, Joe Ledley, on a deal which will see him remain in the Hunter until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season.

A midfielder by trade, the 33-year-old brings with him to the Jets a ton of experience at both club and international level.

Ledley began his career with Welsh side, Cardiff City, playing for his hometown club a total of 229 times before making the switch to Scottish giants, Celtic.

While with the Hoops, Ledley won three Scottish Premiership titles and scored 20 goals in 106 appearances.

From Celtic, Ledley would go on to play with Crystal Palace, Derby County, and Charlton Athletic.

In addition to what is a glittering CV at club level, Ledley has played 77 times for the Wales national team, scoring four goals.

He was a key turn in a Euro 2016 campaign in which Wales finished as semi-finalists, playing in all six matches from the group stage to the final four.

Now in Newcastle, Ledley said game time was his goal for the remainder of the Hyundai A-League season.

“I’ve come here to play, and I know I’ll have to be at my best to earn a spot in the starting eleven here in Newcastle,” Ledley said.

“I’ve only been to Australia once before, for a pre-season tour with Celtic back in 2011, and I’m really looking forward to the challenge of the Hyundai A-League.

“The opportunity to work under Carl [Robinson] is one that I’m also looking forward to, we crossed paths in a few Wales camps when I was a youngster and to have the chance to link up with him again is exciting.”

Head Coach, Carl Robinson, said to have a player of Ledley’s calibre at his disposal was a big plus.

“Joe’s record at club and international level speaks for itself, he’s a class player and to have him here at the Jets for the remainder of the season is great,” Robinson said.

“He’s the type of player who will really help our younger boys out, plus he’ll add a different dimension to our game and I think he’ll have a good impact.”
