Boogaard suffers cruel injury blow

Boogaard

Newcastle Jets captain Nigel Boogaard is set to miss at least another month of football after fracturing his fibula last week.

Already sidelined due to suspension following five yellow cards, the defender suffered an injury during training which will keep him off the pitch for at least four weeks.

“I had to go and get some scans and it turns out I have a small fracture in my leg” Boogaard said.

It’s a further blow for the team who have been lean on troops in recent weeks.

The likes of Ramy Najjarine and Jason Hoffman have only recently returned to play, while Johnny Kourtroumbis will be out of action for another 3-5 weeks with an injured MCL.

Boogaard is doing everything he can to make sure he is back to lead his side into the final stages of the season.

“I’m going above and beyond to make sure I get back onto the park,” Boogaard said.

“It’s all about strength and fitness at the moment, to make sure I give myself the best chance when I come back.”

The squad is also without Ben Kantarovksi (calf) but both Lucas Mauragis (ankle) and Archie Goodwin (ankle) are closing in on a return.

In desperate need of a win and running low on troops, timing is far from ideal.

Boogaard is one of the Club’s most experienced players and his injury comes as a huge blow, with the Jets needing to get some results before the finals slips out of calculations.
