Ins & Outs: Deans confirms changes for Roar

In Out

Newcastle Jets coach Craig Deans has named his squad for Friday’s clash against Brisbane with Nigel Boogaard a confirmed starter.

The skipper failed to complete the 1-0 loss to Central Coast last week due to a knock on the leg but has recovered well throughout the week and been given the green light to take the pitch.

“He came off last week, he just got a knock to the area that was a bit sore so it was not possible for him to finish the game but he has done everything asked of him this week as far as recovery, full training, full contact, and the whole lot,” Deans said.

“So, at this stage there is no reason to not back him and doubt him at all, so he is straight back in and I look forward to another strong performance from him.”

In another boost for the team, Jordan O’Doherty is poised to return after a week off.

The midfielder missed the last match with a vomiting bug.

“He’s been fine the last three days, he’s trained fully, so no issues with Jordy,” he said.

“I think we missed him a little bit last week, just his energy that he brought to the game would have been something that would have been good for a derby game as well.”

After a week off against Sydney FC and a return via the bench against Mariners, Johnny Koutroumbis is poised to return to the starting side this weekend.

“Johnny is a strong player for us and someone that we look to from a leadership point of view as well, so we’ll bring him back in and then there’s a couple of other tough decisions to make,” Deans said.

“We need to break the cycle of not winning and if we continue with the same players over and over and the same results come in you need to make changes.”
