Ins & Outs: Jets dealt injury blow

inout

Newcastle Jets will head into Saturday’s clash with Perth down on troops following an ankle injury to John Koutroumbis.

The 23-year-old failed to finish Tuesday’s 2-0 win over the Central Coast and will miss the final home game of the season.

“He’s in the moon boot and crutches,” Deans said.

“He had a scan and won’t be part of this game. He’s a loss for us.

“Ali (Abbas) came on just after halftime (on Tuesday) and defended well. He did a good job, so he’ll come in.”

Furthermore, the Club is also without Lachlan Jackson.

The defender was granted an immediate release in order to take up an opportunity to secure his future overseas.

“It’s a great opportunity for Lachlan to go and test himself at a good level,” Deans said.

“We don’t want to deny him that opportunity with two or three games left here.”

The Jets are already without trio Connor O’Toole, Luka Pršo and Ramy Najjarine, who are on international duty.

Plus, Apostolos Stamatelopoulos is sidelined with a calf injury.

“We have to shuffle some people around,” Deans said.

“The players we have here are quite versatile, so someone’s going to have to fill that hole.”
