Jets host Wanderers in unique Members Only trial

The Newcastle Jets will play Western Sydney Wanderers in a history-making Members Only event at Wanderers Oval.

The Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets will go up against the A-League-s newest Club Western Sydney Wanderers in a history-making Members Only event at Wanderers Oval, Broadmeadow at 2pm on Saturday, September 15.

In a first for football in Newcastle, the fixture will serve as the Members- Season Launch and will be an exclusive match for those who have signed up to become Newcastle Jets Members for the 2012/13 A-League season.

It will also be the first time Jets Members have an opportunity to look at the newest addition to the A-League, the Western Sydney Wanderers.

Jets CEO Robbie Middleby said the concept behind a Members Only event was about giving something back to the Club-s most loyal fans.

“This is a great opportunity for us to reward our Members for the loyalty and commitment they have shown the Club,” he said.

“We-ve already had a great response to our Membership drive and we-d love to see as many Members as possible turn up to Wanderers Oval for what I-m certain will be a great occasion.

“I-m sure it will be an exciting game and a tremendous atmosphere inside the ground when it is filled to the brim with Jets Members.”

Members wishing to attend will need to show their 2012/13 Membership card at the gate to enter. Membership cards will arrive in the post to Members in advance of the match. Those who haven't yet purchased are encouraged to join so they can enjoy the Members exclusive pre-season trial.

Advisory Board Chairman Ray Baartz said hosting a trial match that is a Members Only event was a great initiative and a wonderful bonus for Jets Members.

“This is just another way of giving something back to the Club-s Members,” he said.

“It-s great to surprise them with events and initiatives like this that go over and above what they expected to get when they signed up.

“The Members and supporters are the heart and soul of the Club and this is a great way to reward their loyalty.”

Following the game, the Jets playing squad will be coming back out onto the field to sign autographs and have their photos taken with the Club-s Members.

Middleby said the fixture was also an important part of the preparations for Gary van Egmond-s squad as they gear up for the 2012/13 A-League season.

“This game takes place just three weeks before the start of the A-League season, so I-m certain both teams will be looking to put their best foot forward,” he said.

“It will be a great opportunity to prepare for our first game of the A-League season against Adelaide United at Hunter Stadium on October 7.”
