A Craig Goodwin hat-trick, a brace to Adam Taggart and a goal from Mitch Oxborrow saw the Jets secure the comprehensive victory.
After scoring in the Jets- 9-1 win over the Canberra Rockets a week earlier, Goodwin wasted no time putting Newcastle ahead at Darling Street Oval.
The left-back hit a powerful shot from 25 metres out that flew into the top corner of the goal to give the Jets a 1-0 lead after less than five minutes of play.
Goodwin found himself in a similar position a short time later and did not hesitate to pull the trigger again. This time the ball took a heavy deflection off a NBN Select player and looped into the back of the net to make it 2-0.
The 20-year-old completed his hat-trick, with less than 15 minutes of game time having elapsed, when he hit a low-driven effort from a tight angle that went across the goalkeeper into the bottom corner.
The Jets continued to control possession and territory, but some wayward shooting saw the score line stay at 3-0 at half time.
The break saw the introduction of Michael Bridges, Dominik Ritter and Mark Birghitti. Bridges was immediately in the thick of the action, forcing a number of sharp saves from the NBN Select goalkeeper.
The Englishman-s footwork proved to be a handful for the NBN Select defence and he laid on the Jets’ fourth goal with an exquisite turn and through-ball to substitute Mitch Oxborrow who scored with his first touch of the game.
Adam Taggart made an immediate impact on his return to action from a groin injury. The 19-year-old finished off some slick interplay between Taylor Regan and Dominik Ritter with a well hit shot from the top of the box that put the Jets 5-0 up.
Taggart scored his second, and the Jets sixth, moments later when he received the ball from Ben Kantarovski on the edge of the box. The striker turned on a dime before firing a a shot that proved too powerful for the NBN Select goalkeeper.
