Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets players Mitchell Oxborrow and Nick Cowburn have been selected to represent Australia at the COTIF International U-19 Tournament in Spain this month.

The pair will link-up with Paul Okon-s 20-man squad in Sydney on Wednesday for a two-day training camp, before departing for Spain on Friday, August 9.

The tournament is scheduled to take place between August 12 and August 21 and will be used by the Young Socceroos as preparation for the first stage of AFC qualifying for the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Oxborrow, who made his A-League debut for the Jets against Perth Glory at nib Stadium in Round 11 last season, has already represented Australia at U-17 and U-20 level.

Cowburn has been a key figure for the Newcastle Jets Youth team during the 2012/13 National Youth League season as well as their current NBN State League campaign.

Jets CEO Robbie Middleby congratulated the pair on their selection in the squad.

“It-s fantastic for both Mitch and Nick to have been selected in this squad and on behalf of everyone at the Club, I-d like to wish them the best of luck while they-re in Spain,” Middleby said.

“Mitch showed last season that he has the potential to be a very good A-League player, while Nick is a promising local product who has performed well for our youth team.

“This is the first step towards playing in the U-20 World Cup in 2015 and a great opportunity for them both.

“It-s also an indication of the promising young talent coming through the ranks at the Jets, especially on the back of having four players represent Australia at this year-s U-20 World Cup in Turkey.”
