The Newcastle Jets have secured the services of Young Socceroo Mitch Oxborrow and promising local product Brandon Lundy.
The Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets have re-signed Young Soccero Mitch Oxborrow until the end of the 2014/15 season, while local product Brandon Lundy has inked a two-year deal with his hometown Club commencing next season.
Oxborrow-s one-year contract extension comes after the 18-year-old made his Hyundai A-League debut for the Jets against Perth Glory in Round 11 last season.
Having already represented Australia at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2011, Oxborrow was a member of the Young Socceroos squad that recently competed at the AFC U-19 Championship qualifying tournament in Malaysia.
The central-midfielder said he was pleased to have extended his stay in Newcastle for another season.
“Newcastle-s a really nice place to be and I-m enjoying my football here at the moment,” Oxborrow said.
“I like playing under Gary (van Egmond) and I think we-re building a strong squad here, so it-s a good environment for me to be in at this point of my career.
“My focus now is to push for more game time in the A-League this season and hopefully with more hard work I can take my chance when it comes.”
Lundy becomes the latest born and bred Novocastrian to make the step-up from youth team level to the Jets- first team ranks with a two-year contract that will keep in Newcastle until the end of 2015/16 season.
The 17-year-old Hunter Sports High product said he was delighted to have signed his first professional contract with his hometown Club.
“It-s a great feeling, especially being a Newcastle boy, I-m really happy to have signed with the Jets,” Lundy said.
“I-ve been training with the first team a fair bit lately and I just want to work hard every day and learn as much as I can from the first team players.
“Hopefully I can have a good season with youth team this year and progress from there.”
Jets CEO Robbie Middleby said the Club was extremely happy to have secured the services of two promising young talents in Oxborrow and Lundy.
“Mitch has performed very well this pre-season and has an extremely bright future,” Middleby said.
“He has already represented his country at U-17 and U-20 level and we-re looking forward to watching him continue his development over the next couple of seasons.
“Brandon did extremely well for the youth team in the NBN State League this season and has impressed the coaching staff when he has trained with first team.
“He-s a Newcastle boy and it-s fantastic have another local product graduating from the youth team to the A-League squad.”
