Train and trial opportunity for Costanzo

Domenic Costanzo has been in Newcastle for just over a week as he looks to impress Club officials in a bid to secure an opportunity.

The son of former Jet Angelo Costanzo, Domenic is on a scholarship contract for the 2020/21 season with Adelaide.

Unable to get a look-in with the Reds’ first-team, Coach Craig Deans and the Jets brought the young gun in for a week and half with several roster spots available for the upcoming season.

“Dom Costanzo, from Adeliade, is here for a trial and had a lot of people recommend him,” Deans said.

“It’s the time of the year where we’re down a bit on numbers as well.

“It adds to the training group and gives him an opportunity to come to Newcastle. Obviously, his dad played here.

“So, he’s got a good pedigree but it’s been difficult with all the chopping and changing and the training. So, he’s had about a week here now.

“We’ll have a look at him and send him back to Adelaide and see what the future is for him either here or (there). He’s an Adelaide player at the moment, so that’s a decision to be made.”

Last season, the teenager scored 14 goals in 18 matches while playing NPL.

That form prompted Adelaide to sign the winger on scholarship having previously played in their Y-League side the previous year.
