Our Westfield W-League side will head to Wagga Wagga for a Sunday afternoon clash, and Craig Deans has named his travelling squad.

Promotions for three youngsters means that 17 players will be in contention for game time against Sydney FC this weekend.

Kirsty Fenton, Molly Arens, and Kiarnie Latham will all board the bus bound south in a bid to impress Deans prior to our November 17 season opener against Melbourne City.

There will be debut appearances for a number of others too – Nicki Flannery, Lauren Allan, Annabel Martin and Nicole Simonsen will all don the Jets jersey for the first time on Sunday.

Three will miss the trip to Wagga Wagga on Sunday: Renee Pountney and Sophie Nenadovic are unavailable due to injury. Tessa Tamplin misses out due to her involvement with the Young Matildas.

An opportunity to get minutes into the legs won’t be missed by a number of Jets incumbents – the three co-captains in Gema Simon, Cassidy Davis, and Clare Wheeler will be looking to make their mark this weekend.

Westfield W-League Head Coach, Craig Deans said he’s pleased with the quality of the squad heading to Wagga Wagga.

“To face Westfield W-League opposition at this stage of the pre-season will be a good indicator of where we’re at and what we have to work on for the next fortnight,” Deans said.

“It’ll be great to see the new faces have a run and see how things are gelling there, and it’s always good to throw in some young blood and see how they handle the step up to first grade.

“Our squad is a young one and it’s got a very Newcastle flavour, but it is a strong one and I think we’re a good chance of getting a positive result this Sunday in Wagga Wagga.”
