Gilly’s on fire
After arriving late to Newcastle, we’ve seen glimpses of the ability and the presence which Arin Wright brings to this Jets side.
Against Perth, Newcastle was treated to one of the most complete performances of the season from the American.
She was on the ball more than any other Jets player on the park, created three chances, and scored the goal which drew Newcastle level.
A similar performance this weekend could be the difference.
Retaining the same XI
With no new injuries or suspensions to speak of, Craig Deans could be set to send out the same starting XI for two weeks running.
Due to injuries and suspension throughout this season, consistency has been difficult to come by but that could change this weekend.
The midfield was one area which the Jets did particularly well against Perth, and Deans will be loathe to change a winning formula.
Tamplin backing up
She impressed in her debut Westfield W-League jaunt against Perth, and Tessa Tamplin may get another chance to shine on Sunday.
The winger created a chance, attempted a whopping 11 crosses, and didn’t stop running in her 72 minutes.
With those first-game nerves out of the system, Tamplin will be keen to impress further on Sunday.
A giant challenge
The questions come around everytime the Jets face City but it’s an ever-pertinent one: can we beat them?
Never in Westfield W-League history have Newcastle beat Melbourne City, and last time out it was the sky blue of City who won out 3-1.
Staying in the race
It’ll take some fantastic football and a minor miracle, but the Jets are still in the running for the top four.
To give themselves a chance, three wins from their remaining three fixtures are all but required.
This weekend presents a huge challenge, but with last weekend’s huge morale-boosting victory the Jets are every chance.
