It’s been almost a month since we’ve checked in on the progress of our scattered Westfield W-League girls, who are plying their trade across Australia and the world.
Let’s take a look at how they’re faring, with title races well and truly underway close to home while FIFA Women’s World Cup ambitions are on the line further afield.
There’s even been a Young Westfield Matildas call-up!
But let’s start at home in the Women’s Premier League competition, where a number of Jets have already faced off against one another.
Tara Andrews’ New Lambton Eagles side currently top the league with seven wins from their seven games so far this season – and the striker is leading the way with 15 goals in five appearances so far in 2019.
In second on the ladder is Warners Bay United featuring Cassidy Davis and Jenna Kingsley – the latter is currently second in the goal scoring charts, with nine from six appearances.
Surprising many is the form of Wallsend in the competition, who can thank Libby Copus-Brown for much of their good play this season. She has five goals in 2019, with the Red Devils sitting in fourth.
Above them in third is South Wallsend, for whom Gema Simon has played twice. She’s juggling Matildas commitments with her club football, but at the weekend managed to score a brace.
In the NPL NSW Women’s competition, Claire Coelho, Tessa Tamplin, Renee Pountney, and Paige Kingston-Hogg continue to impress for the Emerging Jets.
In fact, Tamplin’s good form combined with a breakthrough Westfield W-League season earned her a call-up to Gary van Egmond’s Young Matildas side to play in Myanmar in just a few days time.
Elsewhere in that league is Clare Wheeler, Cortnee Vine and Teigan Collister, who are all playing with Sydney Uni who are currently sitting second on the ladder. They’ve all scored two goals each so far this year!
However, Sydney Olympic’s Pana Petratos is currently outdoing the trio with eight so far this season while Hannah Brewer and Sophie Nenadovic are seeing consistent gametime with North Shore Mariners and Manly United respectively.
Overseas in North America’s NWSL competition, Emily van Egmond has played two of Orlando Pride’s three matches so far this season.
Arin Wright has also played two games for her Chicago Red Stars side, while Britt Eckerstrom is yet to see minutes for the Portland Thorns.
And having made herself at home in Newcastle, Larissa Crummer is off crutches and working towards her recovery from a broken leg at Urban Base Fitness at Gateshead!
