Newcastle Jets Westfield W-League coach Ash Wilson has revealed Tiana Jaber will come into the starting side in place of Hannah Brewer on Sunday.
Brewer is unavailable for the match against Brisbane due to work commitments which has opened the door for Jaber to start for the second time this season.
“We’ve got Tiana Jaber, she came in when Gem (Gema Simon) couldn’t travel to Perth with her concussion, and she slotted straight back into that left back role, so we’ve got her there ready to come into a centre back position if needed,” Wilson said.
“That’s been part of her role this year.
“She’s a defensive player and she can play anywhere along that backline.
“She’s worked hard and we’re comfortable putting her in that position.”
In a boost for the team, Tara Andrews returns after missing a week through injury.
The striker rolled her ankle at training ahead of last week’s loss to Canberra but has been given the green light to run out in the final game of the season.
“Obviously Tarz is a key player for us and the girls knowing she’s going to be in a position to get minutes on the weekend will bring a lot of confidence,” Wilson said.
“Tarz is our leading goal scorer, so having someone with her experience and her scoring capabilities up there to will provide a good outlet for us and hopefully that is something that gives the girls a bit more motivation and confidence going into Brisbane.”
