It was a brilliant effort from our women across the Nullarbor on Saturday night, taking a point away from an as-yet unbeaten Perth Glory.
Two goals from Katie Stengel, an incredible eight saves from Britt Eckerstrom, and an inspired team effort ensured the depleted Jets grabbed a deserved point.

A real captain’s call
The Jets were reduced to ten midway through the first half, after a controversial decision to show Larissa Crummer a red card for a tangle with Sam Kerr inside the area.
With Perth lining up a penalty to bring the scores back to 2-2 and Newcastle trying to contest the point with the referee, Emily van Egmond stepped in.
Pulling the Newcastle crew together into a huddle, the co-captain gave her side a rev-up and told them to stay on task – a rallying cry which proved crucial.
Stengel triples her tally
What a difference a week makes in football! Before last Saturday, Katie Stengel was without a goal so far in the Westfield W-League.
Now, with two games under her belt Stengel has three goals to her name, including a double on Saturday night in Perth.
They were two goals taken superbly by the American, laid on by the equally superb Taylor Smith.
Resolute with ten
After Larissa Crummer was sent off and Perth drew level, many might have expected the star power of the Glory to overcome the Jets.
That was far from the case though, and there were more than a few chances for Newcastle to go on and take all three points.
It was a magnificent performance from a determined Jets side, and with the bye in Round 8 the solitary point might prove crucial in the race to finals football.
