It’s a career which begun in the Hunter Valley with Weston Bears, and since then Nigel Boogaard has treaded a path which has seen him become one of Newcastle’s most valuable and dependable defenders. The centre-back has played for two A-League clubs previously, Central Coast Mariners and Adelaide United, and has earned a reputation as one of the competition’s best no-nonsense defenders. A highlight of his time with the Newcastle Jets so far has been playing the most games as captain for the club, notching over 60 appearances with captains armband – Boogaard also notched his 200th A-League appearance in the 2017/18 season. Boogaard made his first appearance for the Jets on August 11 2015, in a penalty shootout loss to Perth Glory in the FFA Cup Round of 32. Aged 34, Boogaard has played over 100 games for the Jets.
