9. Signed from our nearest rivals at the beginning of the 2017/18 season, the man from Ireland quickly became one of Newcastle’s most valuable senior players. A prolific goal scorer for Newcastle in an injury and suspension interrupted debut season, the Jets number nine spent time throughout Great Britain with various clubs before travelling to Australia in 2015. The highlight of his time so far with the Newcastle Jets was in round one of the 2017/18 Hyundai A-League season, when he scored a perfect first-half hat-trick against former club the Central Coast Mariners. O’Donovan made his debut for the Jets on 9 August 2017 in the Jets’ 1-0 defeat to Adelaide United in the FFA Cup. The Irishman is enjoying his second stint at the Club, after spending the 2019/20 season with Brisbane before returning to the Jets the following year. O'Donovan became an Australian citizen in 2021.
